This artwork went through a lot of iterations to get to its current form.
Pew Pew Mew Version 1
|
Version 1, entitled Pew Pew Mew, was drawn on my iPad using Procreate. I wanted to create something that went with my brand’s tagline, Graphic design for goth gamer girls. I came up with a galaxy-themed cat holding a video game controller in his mouth.Â
|
With Version 2, I wanted to make the artwork much more polished and neat. I also wanted to vectorise the artwork in Illustrator so it could be resized for any possible print on demand requirements.

I attributed the lack of sales success of Versions 1 and 2 to their unusualo colour scheme. For Version 3, I went more conservative, with a black cat and a white controller. But still, nobody seemed interested.
|
I came to the conclusion that my cat, while rendered well, was nowhere near as CUTE as I wanted him to be. I needed to up the cuteness factor! So I studied real cats faces, to see what I needed to change…
- Rounder cheeks
- Droopier whiskers
- BIGÂ round eyes

Comparision of Pew Pew Mew Version 2 and 4.1
After the mockup was made, I created the new version in Illustrator, and changed the colours to a white cat with a yellow controller.Â
