You had normal-coloured hair. You got bored. Needed a change. One that smacks other people right in their visual cortex. Whatever. It’s just hair. But it’s YOUR hair, and you’re gonna do whatever YOU want to it – even bathing it in god-knows-what chemicals until it bends (and okay, maybe sometimes, breaks) to your will.
Now your hair is neon, colorful, a gorgeous rainbow. You’re stoked. Everyone is looking. Some are loving. Some are hating. Some are making it their mission to nag you into follicular submission. Not today, bud!
So you give them a deadpan look and point to your t-shirt, or sticker, or other awesome Redbubble item, and the message is clear: Dyed hair, don’t care!
Designed with love [and semi-permanent dye] by Jessica Amber, to be as bold and vibrant as your latest ‘do.
About This Artwork
This artwork was primarily inspired by the artwork Hydrate or Die-Drate by Redbubble artist Jackapedia.
I liked the clean, vector-like design, the use of banners reminiscent of those found on sailor tattoos, and the overall modern, universal message – we need water to live.
Then I had to come up with my concept. I picked an idea that was, and still is, relevant to me: dyeing hair. I’ve had almost every hair colour since I first started dyeing my hair in my late teens. I love how a new colour can make me feel like a new, fresh version of myself. Red hair can play up a seductive side, while bright pink could show I’m super sweet and quirky!
I wanted to provide an design option for every person who dyes their hair, so in total I made 15 colour variations for this design. Also, on Redbubble, I made a sticker sheet that contained every design, so if someone had a lot of dyed hair friends, they could buy one sheet and give a sticker to everyone!
