Introduction

Emojis don’t just belong in the group chay anymore! They can be a useful tool to take your Zazzle product designs to the next level.
You can use them to add decoration and width to a line of text, like I have in my magnetic chore board’s heading…

…or you can use emojis to create editable patterns, like on my Danish Pastel desk lamp…

…or you can use them in the descriptions for your text fields to bring attention to important information.

Can't I Just Use Any Emoji?

Unfortunately not all emojis are at your disposal. The newer the addition of the emoji to Unicode, the less likely it is to work on Zazzle. In my testing, characters from Unicode version 4.0 and earlier are most likely to work, and thereafter, rarely work.

What happens if I use an invalid Unicode character?

Zazzle will treat it as nothing – it will disappear as soon as you exit the text box. In a regular text box, this is not a big deal.

However, if you have a text box where the character is the ONLY thing in the box, you will find the whole text box will disappear.

The textbox will not only vanish from the customer-side, it will be deleted fully within your product design. If it is a template text box, this will break your template.
Besides telling people in the text box’s description ‘do not use invalid unicode characters here’, or simply not making the text box editable to customers, there is little to do to prevent this possibility.
But reloading the page and deleting all text in the URL after the question mark will bring back the original version of the published product.

So What Emojis Can I Safely Use?

The following are emojis, and other symbols and decorative characters, that I have personally tested in Zazzle. I know from experience that these will work in your text boxes, description boxes, etc.

Feel free to copy and paste them as needed. I will add more as I discover them.
